Eat Clean!

What is eating clean?
If man made it, don't eat it. It's that simple. Eat whole, natural foods (fruits, vegetables, lean proteins and complex carbohydrates). Stay away from white bread and other foods with preservatives, man-made sugar, bad fats (trans-fat, hydrogenated) and any other unnecessary ingredients.

Remember: If man made it, don't eat it.

Make it a Good Morning!

Breakfast is such an important meal in our day; so many people skip it or eat the wrong things. I am posting the 'good' in this post and a link to the 'bad fast-food breakfasts' on the 'To Eat...Or Not' page.

Embrace Winter Produce

Embrace winter produce? Well, not literally.:-)
Here's why you should savor winter fruits and vegetables: they boost the body's immunity, add tons of vitamins and nutrients to our diets, and they are versatile. An added bonus--eating seasonally is eating green: 1. consuming only the freshest available produce, 2. seasonal produce is a more sustainable eating model, and (if I need to get really 'green') I've been told...3. eating winter produce (in the winter) is better for reducing our carbon footprint (but don't quote me).

Best Diets for 2012

In order to be successful, a diet has to work and must be simple.

My choice would be Solutions by Dr. Fitness. Lance Dreher (Dr. Fitness) pictured above.

U.S. World and News Report's Best Diets, 2012 include:

The DASH Diet(Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension): Best overall diet for healthy eating and the best diabetes diet (tied with the Biggest Loser diet). The DASH diet (emphasis on whole grains, vegetables, fruits, and lean protein may also help lower cholesterol.
DASH for Health

Weight Watchers was voted best weight-loss diet, best commercial diet plan and easiest diet to follow.

The Ornish diet ranked first in best heart-healthy diets.

The Mediterranean diet ranked fourth in heart-healthy diets.

The Mayo Clinic diet(ranked third among best diabetes diets) and Jenny Craig (ranked second among best commercial diet plans).

A panel of twenty-two volunteers chose the diets based on information from sources such as government reports and scientific journals. Seven criteria were used to rate the diets, including how well they generated short-term/long-term weight loss.
